Methow Valley native Novie McCabe, recently named to the U.S. Ski Team that will compete at the Beijing Winter Olympic Games in February, celebrated her success at the recent U.S. Super Tour meet in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Novie McCabe, the Methow Valley’s latest Winter Olympian, has landed safely in Beijing ahead this Friday’s opening ceremonies in the Chinese capital city, according to mother Laura McCabe.

“She got there okay and was able to text me and let me know,” said McCabe while helping at the Race of the Methow this weekend. Novie had been training in northern Italy for the past week since being named to the 2022 U.S. Nordic Team. The team left Italy for Beijing on Saturday.

• Friday, Feb. 4, opening ceremonies. If you want to watch it live, brew some coffee and tune in to KHQ at 3:30 a.m. Friday. NBC is scheduled to air a delayed re-broadcast on KHQ Channel 6 Spokane at 5 p.m. local time. Viewers reported spotting glimpses of the local contingent on the screen during each of the past two Olympics, so keep the eyes glued to the TV when Team USA enters the stadium.

• Friday, Feb. 4, competition at 11 p.m. on NBC Olympics and USA. If you didn’t see McCabe in the opening ceremonies, it might be because she is listed as an alternate in the women’s classical/freestyle skiathlon event and may be at the competition site.

• Wednesday, Feb. 9, 11 p.m., McCabe is scheduled to ski in the women’s 10-kilometer classic, live on NBC and USA.
