This photo, titled “Spring Balsam and Lupine,” took first place in the landscape division of the Methow Valley Citizens Council’s Methow Watershed Photo Contest.

Starting in late summer 2021, the Methow Valley Citizens Council began collecting photos taken in the valley as part of its Methow Valley Watershed Photo Contest.

On Dec. 31, the organization announced its winners in three categories: Landscape, wildlife and “Methow Character” — judged through social media votes — out of 150 total submissions.

John Kienast won first place in the landscape division with “Spring Balsam and Lupine;” Juliet Kennedy won first place in the Wildlife division with “Resident Rodent;” and Jade Wolff won first place in the Methow character division with “Fall is a Bridge.”

The submissions were judged by Peter Bauer, wildlife photographer & Methow Valley Citizens Council Board Member; Teri Pieper, a professional photographer, NCW Audubon Society and Bruce McCammon, of the NCW Audubon Society.
