An American robin was spotted 23 times during this year’s Christmas Bird Count in Twisp.
The 34th annual Twisp Audubon Christmas Bird Count took place Jan. 2 this year, and recorded a total of 6,607 birds — the highest amount ever counted in the local event — with the largest concentration being the Bohemian waxwing (714), the house finch (598), the American goldfinch (585) and the California quail (509).
Despite the cold and overcast day, participants counted 71 total species of birds on Jan. 2 and an additional two species during the count week.
This is the 122nd year of the National Audubon Society’s Christmas Bird Count. Locally, 50 birders spread out in a 7 ½-mile radius from downtown Twisp and walked, skied or drove while looking for birds.
