
Malotte work in photo exhibit
Local photographer and artist Sherry Malotte has been accepted into the 17th National Photography Competition hosted by FotoFoto Gallery of Long Island, New York. “Shadow Self,” a photo/mixed media work, was one of 30 images selected out of the 552 submitted. The exhibition opens Feb. 3 and continues through March 5, and can be seen online at www.fotofotogallery.org.
Postcard Poetry
Confluence Poets has launched a new set of Postcard Poetry, “Uncertain Times: Poems of Healing and Refuge.” The set includes 10 original poems on 5-by-7-inch cards written by poets Subhaga Crystal Bacon, Ken Bevis, Easton Branam, Cindy William Gutierrez, Christine Kendall, Kelleigh McMillan, Merry Maxwell, Eileen (Sam) Owen, Julianne Seaman and Greg Wright.
Each card is illustrated with a different pen-and-ink drawing of a bird, and an additional card is a color print of a California Quail. The artwork is by poet, artist and naturalist Merry Maxwell. The cards, suitable for framing, require normal postage. They are available at the Winthrop Gallery, The Confluence and Valley Goods in Twisp.
Methow history readings
Diana Hottell, author of “The Whole Damn Valley,” will read from her stories about the old Methow Valley that ran in the Methow Valley News and Wenatchee World between 1976 and late 1980s that were not her book, on Feb. 4, Feb. 18 and March 4 at 9 a.m. Register for the online readings at methowathome.org.
Graphic novel class

TwispWorks is offering a graphic novel arts class presented by Masha Falkov over six Wednesdays beginning Feb. 9 and continuing through March 16, from 6-7:30 p.m. each session. Learn about the specialized visual language of comics and graphic novels, and how to apply them to your own art. You’ll storyboard, write and draw your own comic in your unique style using the new techniques and visual language. Falkov, an artist who has a studio on the TwispWorks campus, is the writer and illustrator of the graphic novel “The Gossamer Web.” Classes will take place at YourSpace. Cost is $290.
