Help the Barn
Dear Editor:
The COVID pandemic has hit a lot of the community and in many different ways. One that has hit the community very hard is not being able to gather and share our love for the community and the people who live in it.
The Barn in Winthrop use to be one of the brightest spots in the valley. All of the memories and the joy that a wide range of events would have brought were not options with the pandemic. It forced the Winthrop Auditorium Association (WAA) out of operating the Barn due to no revenue. We were operating at a loss. We worked with the town and they have since taken over the day-to-day operations. Hopefully there will start to be more activity and use of the Barn as the pandemic seems to be slowing down and more events are being planned.
As president of the WAA I am reaching out to the partners who use the Barn frequently and the people of the valley to help us raise some money for the rebuilding of the vestibule entrance at the Barn. The previous entrance had to be taken down so new concrete could be installed due to tripping hazards as well as decaying lumber. Winter is coming and we would like to get it up and built soon and you can help. The cost to get this project completed is about $5,000 in materials. We hope to work with volunteers to get it built so there won’t be any “labor” costs.
If you see the Barn as valuable of an asset as I do, it would be appreciated if you would be willing to invest in the Barn and keep it vital as a part of the community. You can send donations to the WAA at P.O. Box 459, Winthrop, WA 98862 or you can call me at 996-3864 for information.
