The coronavirus pandemic didn’t stop the annual Christmas at the End of the Road fireworks show in Winthrop last year.
Once again, the unofficial beginning of the Methow Valley holiday season starts with the end — Winthrop’s annual Christmas at the End of the Road celebration, that is, set for Friday and Saturday (Nov. 26-27).
It’s an opportunity for some leisurely post-Thanksgiving strolling, shopping, skating, interaction with Santa and of course the always-anticipated fireworks show.
The event includes shopping deals both days; and a skating session with Santa at the Winthrop Rink from 6-8 p.m. on Friday.
Santa is expected to arrive in town via horse-drawn carriage on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., and will be available for photos from 1-4 p.m. at Sheri’s Sweet Shoppe. Bring your own camera.
At 5 p.m., Winthrop’s Riverside Avenue merchants will turn on their decorative Christmas lights, and at 6 p.m. there will be a fireworks show that can be viewed live from vantage points around town (Riverside Avenue is popular and crowded, but not the only place to be), or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/WinthropWashington. The show typically lasts about 20 minutes; be sure to bundle up.
Food trucks, and free hot chocolate and cider provided in front of Town Hall by Coldwell Banker Winthrop Realty, will also be available. The event is organized by the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce.
