Tours scheduled for new Winthrop library
Friends of the Winthrop Public Library (FOWL) have scheduled tours over the next two weekends of the new Winthrop library building, which is getting closer to completion.
The tours are scheduled for 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 17) and the following Sunday (Oct. 24).
Only adults 18 and over are invited for the tours. Attendees should wear a mask or be vaccinated. To RSVP, email winthroplibrarytours@gmail.com.
Repair Cafés are back for fall
Methow Recycles’ Repair Cafés are back this fall, offering services including electrical and mechanical fixes, sewing, knife/tool sharpening and basic bicycle repair.
Items must be small enough to be carried, not leaking fluids and not hazardous in any way. Please bring parts needed to complete the repair. Attendees should wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.
The next event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Oct. 16 in the parking lot of The Cove in Twisp, across from the Twisp Post Office. Another event will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 20 at the same location.

Mid-Valley Hospital hosts blood drive
Mid-Valley Hospital & Clinic will partner with Vitalant Blood Donation for a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Oct. 18 in the parking lot of Mid-Valley Clinic at 529 Jasmine Street in Omak.
The blood drive will take place on Vitalant’s bus in the parking lot. To make an appointment, call 877 – 258‑4825 and use sponsor code “Omak Community” to register.
Social distancing will be enforced and only people without symptoms of illness, including fever, will be allowed to donate. Donors will be screened for COVID-19 before being allowed to give blood.
Methow At Home schedules dementia training
On Thursday (Oct. 28) Methow At Home has scheduled a meeting from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on dementia. The training is hosted by Jessica Kulsrud and Rana Clarke and is presented via Zoom.
The training presents information for anyone who wants to learn about dementia, you are caring for someone with dementia or if you have symptoms.

Also on Oct. 28 members of the Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will host a presentation on how to recognize cyber scams and to avoid becoming a victim.

Confluence Poets schedule ‘Remembrance: Lifting the Veil’
As part of the annual observance Dia de Los Muertos, Confluence Poets will present a reading of works celebrating the lives of those who have passed at 7 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 28) at The Confluence Gallery in Twisp.
The event is free. Proof of vaccination, face coverings and pre-regstration from Brown Paper Tickets are required. Seating is limited to 30.
