The Twisp Fourth of July parade starts at 11 a.m. from the TwispWorks campus, then proceeds north on Glover Street through the heart of downtown. This year, the parade route is extended: it turns right (east) on Twisp Avenue until it reaches Lincoln Street, where it makes another right (south) turn and proceeds back to TwispWorks.
As of early this week, maximum temperatures for July 4 are forecast to be in the high 90s. There were no plans to cancel the event at press time on Tuesday (June 29). Dennis Gardner, president of the Methow Valley Horsemen, which organizes the two annual Methow Valley Rodeos, said that the short ride would not likely affect horses adversely. He noted that the hottest temperatures typically occur later in the day, after the parade will have concluded.
Vicki Hallowell, former Twisp Town Clerk, said in an email that “there hasn’t been a policy to cut off/cancel/postpone the parade due to high temperatures in the past … Participants always had the option to participate or not under any circumstances.” The Twisp Chamber of Commerce took over organizing the parade a couple of years ago.
The parade was canceled in 2020 because of COVID-related concerns.
