The Housing Authority of Okanogan County has been selected to participate in the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development’s new Emergency Housing Voucher program, which is intended to prevent homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The housing authority was awarded 15 emergency housing vouchers, which will be available for application beginning July 1. The program is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act.Vouchers are allocated to public housing authorities in areas where populations have the greatest need, while also taking into consideration housing authority capacity and the requirement to ensure geographic diversity, including rural areas.
The vouchers will assist individuals and families who are homeless; at risk of homelessness; fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking or human trafficking; or are recently homeless. People in those situations are urged to contact the housing authority.
“We’re excited to be able to assist people going through difficult times and in desperate situations,” said Nancy Nash-Mendez, executive eirector of the housing authority. For more information, email info@okanoganhousing.org or call (509) 422-3721.
