Senior News

June 9, 2021 by Methow Valley News

We had two large and very successful Western sidewalk sales. A lot of people ask us what the money is used for. Well, first we have utilities, insurance, maintenance and upkeep, like having our roof resealed, which is expensive. We gave out two $1,000 scholarships, and a large donation to the Friends of the Pool to help keep the swimming pool open. We also donated $500 to St. Jude’s Hospital in memory of our late cook Donna, and this has all been in the last few months.

We have donated to the cat rescue foundation in memory of our friend and longtime volunteer Verleigh, which was her request. We contributed in the past with a dog trained to help a person with seizures, and many other fundraisers for medical problems: burn victims, transplants and cancer victims, for instance. We like to keep our donations in the valley. We have donated to the Methow Valley Community Center and the library, and to many others through the years.

I hope this answers some questions as to where our money goes. We are all volunteers and do not get any pay.

Rita Walker was the winner of the gift basket for May.

Try to stay positive and keep good, loving thoughts going. Life is short — make it the best you can.
