
Ila Newman of the Methow Cycling Team took third place in the women’s 14-18 category at the Oregon Stampede race in Sisters.
Four Members of the Methow Cycling Team recently traveled to Oregon for the 12th annual Sisters Oregon Stampede mountain bike race, one of the largest MTB Cross Country races in the Northwest with about 500 participants.
The Methow Team competed in the shorter of the two races, 14 miles of relatively flat, dusty, loose surface trails.
Ila Newman, along with her father Jeremy, and Stella Scholz and her father Hanz, made the 8 ½-hour drive to Sisters. They all earned podium spots.
Stella Scholz raced to a first-place finish in the 14 to 18 female category, and was the first place female overall and 25th out of all participants with a time of 58:13.
Ila Newman was not far behind in third place in the 14-18 female category, and was the 15th-place female and 64th overall with a time of 1:05:50.
Jeremy Newman won the 40-49 men’s category in a time of 54:22, good for 6th place overall. Hanz Scholz pedaled to a 3rd-place finish and 12th overall with a time of 56:36.
