Letters to the editor — June 9

June 9, 2021 by Methow Valley News

Thanks and congrats

Dear Editor:

A big cheer of gratitude for this amazing community and the many ways that everyone showed up this weekend to support the Class of 2021. Thank you to the Methow Valley School District teachers, staff and administration who worked hard all year to open and keep open our schools so that our daughter and her peers could have a senior year at school. Thank you to all at Liberty Bell High School and the Independent Learning Center for creatively figuring out a way to host a safe and meaningful outdoor graduation. Thank you to the hundreds of community members who lined the streets cheering for every graduate during the parade.

Thank you to the Kiwanis for bringing “casino night” to the Senior Party and to the Methow Valley businesses who donated more than $1,000 worth of prizes for our graduates at the party. And, of course, thank you (and congratulations!) to all of the seniors and their families for reminding us what a big accomplishment it is to graduate from high school. This valley sure knows how to support its students.

Nonsensical

Dear Editor:

I am dumbfounded in a country offering free vaccines to anyone over the age of 12, which will likely save your life, that it has been decided incentives from beer to cash must be offered in order to encourage individuals to get the vaccine.

Populations around the world have been unable get vaccines for a multitude of reasons and are suffering.

I am embarrassed as an American by this fact. It makes no sense.

Great photos

Dear Editor:

Re the “Back in the saddle” photos. Before we throw away last week’s paper, let’s take another look at the Rodeo full-pager on page A8. This display is truly remarkable. Of course we notice the action shots first: the airborne riders (both bronc and steer), the barrel racer seemingly ready to fall over, the steer-menaced clown.

But the smaller pictures express a quieter mood: the mutton buster in his inevitable fall, the overhead view of a lone rider about to mount, the three friendly cowboys. Six shots conveying the experience of actually being not just at, but inside, the event. Let’s hope the spread wins an award somewhere and congratulations to photographer Steve Mitchell and the layout artists for creating this classic.
