Okanogan County updates capital facilities plan

May 5, 2021 by Methow Valley News

Okanogan County is updating its capital facilities plan, which contains an inventory of existing facilities, forecasts of future needs, and locations for proposed expansions or new projects. It also addresses projected costs, including potential sources of funding.

Capital facilities include county buildings, roads and parks. It also includes facilities provided by other entities. such as state roads and most water and sewer systems. The plan doesn’t cover routine maintenance, but can include renovations or major repairs.

The plan is a guide for the county commissioners. It covers projects for the next six years.

The document is used only for planning and is not a guarantee that a project will be implemented. Having an approved capital facilities plan is necessary for certain funding programs.

The plan is informed by the priorities and desired growth set out in the county’s comprehensive plan. An update of the comp plan is nearing completion.

The county is holding a public hearing on the facilities plan on Monday (May 10), at 3 p.m. via Zoom or phone. The draft plan and links and phone numbers for the hearing are on the commissioners’ website at https://okanogancounty.org/Commissioners.

People can submit written comments before the meeting to Clerk of the Board Laleña Johns at ljohns@co.okanogan.wa.us, or can testify at the hearing.
