The recently poured concrete floor for the new Winthrop library is being protected over the winter by an inflated, heated “bubble” structure.
Friends of the Winthrop Public Library (FOWL) announced that several community donors have created a $110,000 Challenge Matching Fund to help fund the new library building, now under construction on White Avenue. Between now and Dec. 31, all gifts and pledges of future support will be matched at 100% from the fund.
“FOWL and this community has raised 94% of the funding we need to open the library’s doors in 2022,” said Shannon Polson, chair of FOWL’s board of directors. “We hope this match motivates year-end gifts of any size that will help us create this wonderful new library.”
More than 500 donors have supported the project so far.
Lost River Winery also said that sales of its Community Red wine through the end of this year will benefit FOWL.
Construction of the new library has been underway since July. The finished concrete floor has been poured. To protect it and help cure the concrete, the entire building footprint was put under an inflated, heated bubble. Framing will begin this week, and construction will proceed through the winter.
