The Methow Valley Ranger District is closing its public-service window to prevent the spread of COVID-19. All services are still available online or over the phone. People can get permits for Christmas trees ($5) at https://www.recreation.gov/tree-permits (search for Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest).
Firewood-cutting permits (minimum, four cords for $20; maximum, 12 cords for $60) can be bought over the phone, although there is a slight delay, since the tag will be mailed. Call the ranger district at 996-4000 for permits. Other forest info is also available by phone.
Both permits are also sold by local vendors: Hank’s Harvest Foods, Twisp, 997-7711; Hank’s Mini Market, Twisp, 997-4332; Pardners Mini Market, Winthrop, 996-2005.
