
Olive Mae Dibble was born May 1, 1921, and died Sept. 27, 2020. Olive Mae Nickell was born in Pateros, Washington, and grew up in Winthrop. She was the daughter of Robert Newton Nickell and Enid Bernadine Callahan. She graduated from Winthrop High School in 1939 and in 1943 married Dale Dibble, also of Winthrop
After the war they owned and operated the Evergreen store in Winthrop, and the variety store in Carlton, until Dale was recalled to active duty for the Korean conflict.
In 1955 they moved to Wakefield, Massachusetts, where Dale was a sales engineer for General Electric. In 1964 they moved to Groveland, Massachusetts, where they started a swim and tennis club and later a health and fitness club in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
They retired in 1985 and moved to Naples, Florida, and in 1994 established a scholarship fund for students of Liberty Bell High School.
Olive Mae died peacefully at her son’s home in Groveland, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, and her son, Dr. Wayne Dibble, and is survived by her son John Dibble.
