Methow Beaver Project planning two-day celebration in September

August 26, 2020 by Methow Valley News

The Methow Beaver Project (MBP) will host a virtual Beaver Celebration event on Sept. 19-20, including a screening of the award-winning feature documentary “The Beaver Believers,” hosted by filmmaker Sarah Koenigsberg with special guest author Frances Backhouse.

The Sept. 19 documentary screening will also include an opening presentation by MBP Executive Director Alexa Whipple. The presentation, available free via the Zoom platform, will be from 7-9:30 p.m. Support the Methow Beaver Project by ordering take-out from local partnering businesses Old Schoolhouse Brewery and East 20 Pizza.

On Sept. 20, MBP staff will showcase various beaver relocation, stream restoration and mitigation sites by conducting COVID-appropriate field trips at three sites. Participants can choose from restoration sites related to beavers and fire recovery, beaver/human/salmon coexistence strategies, and beaver mimicry stream restoration.

The tours are limited to five participants due to COVID-19 Phase II restrictions. Field trips are free but registration is required. Detailed tour descriptions and registration can be found on the event registration page: www.thebeaverbelievers.com/methowbeaverproject.

Established in 2008, the MBP partners with beavers for stream restoration, watershed resilience to wildfire, and a sustainable water supply for wildlife and human communities.
