The Washington State Patrol reported two single-vehicle injury accidents on State Highway 153 last week.
On Saturday (Aug. 15), a motorcycle driven by Mona L. Heringpietz, 67, of Spanaway, was northbound on Highway 153 about 4 miles north of Pateros at about 3:45 p.m. when the motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line and came to rest in the southbound lane, the State Patrol reported. The woman, who was wearing a helmet, was airlifted to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, the State Patrol said. The report said that it did not appear that drugs or alcohol were involved.
On Aug. 12, a car driven by Adam G. Gardner, 50, of Bellingham, crashed on Highway 153 near the intersection with Ross Road south of Twisp. According to the State Patrol, Gardner was northbound at about 5 p.m. when he passed several vehicles, and lost control when returning to the northbound lanes. The vehicle, a Ford Expedition, became airborne, rolled and came to rest on its wheels off the roadway, the State Patrol said. Gardner was wearing a seatbelt.
Gardner was transported by ambulance to Three Rivers Hospital in Brewster. According to the State Patrol report, drugs or alcohol may have been involved. Potential charges are DUI and “wheels off the roadway,” the State Patrol said.
