The Twisp Valley Grange is hosting an online forum featuring four local candidates on Wednesday (July 8) evening.
The virtual event will be from 6:30-8 p.m., and questions for the candidates can be sent in ahead of time or during the forum to firstname.lastname@example.org. Otherwise, there will be no in-person audience participation.
The virtual forum is in accordance with the state’s Phase II COVID-19 recovery guidelines, which strictly limit public gatherings. Under Phase III, gatherings of up to 50 will be allowed, but Okanogan County is likely to remain in Phase II for the next several weeks.
Scheduled to be at the forum are:
• First-term incumbent 12th Legislative District Rep. Keith Goehner (R-Dryden), and challenger Adrianne Moore, a Winthrop resident and nonprofits manager, who is running as a Democrat. Methow Valley physician Ann Diamond, who sought the 12th Legislative District Position 1 in 2016 as an Independent candidate, losing to Goehner, had announced earlier this year that she would again run for the seat, but then decided to withdraw from the race and did not file as a candidate.
• First-term incumbent County Commissioner Andy Hover, running for re-election to the District 2 seat on the commission, and challenger Katie Haven, a sheep rancher who lives in the lower Methow Valley and is running as a Democrat.
Because there are only two candidates in each race, all the candidates will advance past the August primary and to the November general election. Ballots for the Aug. 4 primary election will be mailed July 17.
