Patrick Wayne Jones, 65, of Twisp, passed away at home on Friday, June 19, 2020. He was born in Seattle on Feb. 19, 1955.
He was raised in Twisp where he attended Allen Elementary and Twisp High School. He worked for Methow Valley News owner Denny Lince during his school years.
In 1973 he moved to the Bellingham area where he logged with his Uncle Otto and Aunt Josie Danielson for several years. Patrick returned to the Methow Valley and worked at the Twisp sawmill in the late 1970s and early ’80s. He moved to the Stanwood, Washington, area when the sawmill in Twisp closed. He loved the ocean and eventually worked in the fish processing industry. He had the opportunity to work on a fishing boat in Alaska which was one of his favorite adventures. Patrick moved back to Twisp in 2009 when his health forced him to retire.
Patrick became a mechanic out of necessity early on and enjoyed many years of working on vehicles of all shapes and sizes but loved muscle cars and motorcycles the most. Patrick was in the process of restoring a Model T and had hoped to get it to the point of driving it down the road. For the past year he really wanted to be able to get behind the steering wheel of his pickup and drive, which he was able to do this spring.
He gathered many friends during his early years, including Clint Taylor, Tom Yoakum, Ron Michelson, John Welter, Jay McFarland, Mike McCarter and Gene and Debbie Bair. He often talked about all of his friends on the coast and still kept in touch with as many of them as he could. In Twisp he loved to visit the mini markets and check in on the girls, including wife No. 2 and the ole red-haired broad! He loved to give everybody a bad time and expected it in return. He was a devoted friend to everyone, always reaching out when he could be of help or just for laughs. When asked how he was feeling he always answered the same: “With my hands!” Along with talking and spending time with friends, Patrick enjoyed fishing, hunting, and car shows.
Patrick is survived by siblings Julia Stellingwerf (Ron), Jennifer Konrad (Dale), and Dennis Jones (Jen Ellsworth); nieces Kacee Watson, Jenny Watson-Thom, Kelli Evans, and Lacey Jones; nephews James Jones, Ken Stellingwerf, and Kevin Stellingwerf; Aunt Marge Nilles, and many beloved great nieces and nephews; Patrick considered his cousin, Irene Berger, more like a sister than a cousin. In addition, Patrick is survived by newly discovered nieces and nephews Karlyn Andreassen, Kathleen Agnew, David Agnew, Bill Agnew, Stephen Morach and Bill Morach. He is also survived by his good friend, Carter Darwood, whom Patrick considered his grandson. Patrick was reunited with his childhood friend, Theresa Days, five years ago, and spent his remaining years devoted to her.
He was preceded in death by parents Robert Jones and Patricia Jones, nephew Christopher Watson, and his service dog and devoted companion, Boo.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, June 27, at Sullivan Cemetery in Winthrop.
