Procession, drive-through ceremony on Friday
Graduating seniors and their families will take their show on the road this year, in a special processional through the valley.
To keep everyone safe, school administrators have planned a drive-through commencement ceremony with multiple elements — a parade on Friday (June 5) that winds through Twisp and Winthrop before heading to Liberty Bell High School (LBHS), followed by a diploma ceremony in the parking lot, which will be streamed live.
Speeches by valedictorian Ali Palm, salutatorian Maya Sheely, and teacher Katie Leuthauser — and the senior slide show — will be posted online on Thursday (June 4).
In addition, the school is offering complimentary photos of graduates and their immediate family. Grads will get gift bags from the Class of 2020 parents; and the yearbook, scholarships, and awards — plus some surprises — from Liberty Bell and the Independent Learning Center (ILC).
The parade starts in Twisp at Hank’s Harvest Foods, goes down Glover Street to Highway 20, and then loops through downtown Winthrop before heading to Liberty Bell via Twin Lakes Road.
Graduates and their immediate family members will get parade permits, but the whole community is invited to salute the grads along the parade route (while observing social-distancing recommendations).
Principals Crosby Carpenter (LBHS) and Sara Mounsey (ILC), Superintendent Tom Venable, and the school board directors will all be on hand at the school to present diplomas and congratulate the 40 grads.
The Facebook Live recording of the diploma ceremony will be archived and available via the Liberty Bell Facebook page afterward.
