
Acord is Coach of the Year
Liberty Bell High School boys’ basketball coach Kyle Acord has been named Central Washington 2B league coach of the year for the 2019-20 season.
After the Mountain Lions won just four games in the previous three seasons, Acord coached a much more competitive team to a 9-16 record that included earning a spot in the district tournament.
Junior Nolan Falcon-George, the team’s leading scorer at 11.1 points per game, was named to the All-League third team. Honorable mention went to junior Tyler Darwood, the Mountain Lions’ second-leading scorer at 7.7 points per game.
Liberty Bell also won the team sportsmanship award.
First-team repeat for Mitchell
For the second consecutive year, Liberty Bell High School sophomore Jadyn Mitchell has been named to the Central Washington 2B girls’ basketball All-League first team.
Mitchell averaged 15.9 points per game as the Lady Lions advanced to the district tourney, compiled a 17-6 record and took second place in the CW2B league. As a freshman, Mitchell averaged 15.2 points per game.
Liberty Bell senior Ali Palm was named to the All-League second team. Palm averaged 9.5 points per game. Honorable mention went senior Tommie Ochoa, the team’s floor leader at point guard. She averaged 6 points per game. Ochoa also earned Honorable Mention as a junior.
Junior Madi Surface was named to the All-League defensive team.
Paul first-team in wrestling
Liberty Bell junior Bodie Paul, who took second place at the state wrestling meet in the 1B/2B 152-pound division, was named to the Central Washington 2B All-League first team in that division. Sophomore Cody White was named to the third team in the 126-pound class, and sophomore Noah Holston also earned third-team honors in the 170-pound division.
