The Liberty Bell High School Knowledge Bowl team traveled to Moses Lake on Feb. 3 to compete in a tournament with North Central regional teams, including Wenatchee, Moses Lake, Ephrata, Quincy, Cascade, Cashmere, Chelan, Omak, Okanogan, Brewster, Soap Lake and Manson.
A total of 32 teams from 12 schools competed in three rounds of 40 oral questions and one written round of 50 questions. Liberty Bell’s Team 1 – junior Lindsay Worrell (captain), and sophomores Per Dillingham, Alex Eslava and and Sophia Newton – took 6th place while competing with larger schools.
“The first round was by far Liberty Bell’s performance with team doing incredibly well against larger schools,” coach Leverett Hubbard reported. “They defeated the eventual 3rd-place team, Ephrata, in head-to-head competition.”
The last round consisted of three 2B schools that will play in the regional tournament for spots to the state tournament, Hubbard said. Soap Lake and Liberty Bell each scored 7 points, and Manson scored 6 points. A written round of 50 questions capped off the evening with Liberty Bell scoring 34 points, Manson 32 and Soap Lake 32.
Liberty Bell Team 2– freshmen Connor Herlihy, Angel Arellano (captain), Rocco Wildman and Madison Strauss – competed in a second division of 21 teams and placed 14th with 33 points overall.
On Wednesday (Feb. 12), Liberty Bell competed in last meet of the regular season at Omak. Regional and state tournaments will follow.
