Liberty Bell High School wrestlers on both the boys’ and girls’ teams finished well on Saturday (Jan. 4) at the Banks Lake Brawl, held at Almira-Coulee-Hartline High School.
Noah Holston was the only boy to make the trip to Coulee City. He won three out of his four matches to take third place in his weight class. His one loss was a close one; Holston’s opponent needed two overtimes to get the win, boys’ coach Jonathan McMillan said.
On the girls’ side, Shelby White and Mariah Paz had two matches each. White took first place at her weight, pinning a girl from Oroville in her first match, then pinning an Almira-Coulee-Hartline wrestler in her final contest.
Paz pinned her first opponent but was pinned in her final match to take second place. Both of Paz’s opponents were from Tonasket, coach Jason Newman said.
The girls’ team is off this coming week. The boys travel to Warden High School on Saturday (Jan. 11) to wrestle in the Schmunk Invitational.
