
Eva Weymuller won a spot on the U.S. biathlon team competing in Switzerland.
Two Methow Valley biathletes have been named to the 2020 Youth (U19) and Junior (U21) Biathlon World Championship Team, the U.S. Biathlon International Competition Committee announced at the end of December.
Eva Weymuller of Winthrop and Methow Valley Biathlon will be part of the Female Youth World Championship Team, along with three other women from Alaska, Utah and Minnesota.
Eli Nielsen, who lives in Stehekin and is associated with Crosscut Biathlon but who attended Liberty Bell High School, was named to the Male Junior World Championship Team with three other men from California and Minnesota.
The 15-member squad will compete at the IBU Youth/Junior World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, Jan. 26-Feb. 2, according to the teamusa.org/US-Biathlon/News website. The team was announced at the conclusion of the U.S. Biathlon Junior and Youth World Championships Trials held at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho, Vermont, on Dec. 27-31. The trials consisted of two sprint races and one pursuit race for all categories.
