The Westendorf Jazz Trio — Howie Johnson, Lynette Westendorf and Kirk Schumacher — host a Jazz Jam next Tuesday.
The Westendorf Jazz Trio will host its annual jazz jam session on Tuesday (Jan. 14) at the Methow Valley Community Center, in conjunction with a Dark Sky party coordinated by the Methow Dark Sky Alliance.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. A $15 donation is suggested.
The trio includes Lynette Westendorf on piano, Howie Johnson on bass and Kirk Schumacher on drums. The jam session is open to all jazz musicians and singers who would like to sit in during the evening’s festivities. Several of the area’s best jazz players have already committed to participate, according to a press release.
The Methow Dark Sky Coalition will set up tables with art paper and crayons for everyone to participate in creating art. Photographs from the Hubble telescope will be on display and the coalition will provide information about its efforts.
Prizes will be offered for the best artistic efforts. The art awards are sponsored and judged by Confluence Gallery in Twisp.
The Westendorf Jazz Trio has put together a set of standards in the spirit of the stars, including “Stella by Starlight,” “Turn Out the Stars,” “Stardust” and a medley of songs by Sun Ra. The music will continue until 9 p.m. Refreshments will be available.
