Progress can be an elusive thing to measure, but even with a 1-4 start to the current season the Liberty Bell High School boys’ basketball team seems to be headed in the right direction.
The Mountain Lions lost to one of the best 2B teams in the state when they traveled to Brewster on Dec. 17, as the Bears raced to an 89-53 win over the visitors.
The progress: Last year, in two games against Brewster, Liberty Bell managed a total of 46 points. In the 2018-19 season, the Mountain Lions had trouble reaching 50 points in any game. This year, they are averaging 52 points.
Against Brewster, Liberty Bell was led by two juniors: Nolan Falcon-George with 15 points and 4 rebounds, and Lucaas Gonzalez-Ortega registering a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Dusty Patterson added 8 points.
A road game at Manson scheduled for Friday (Dec. 20) was postponed because weather conditions made travel problematic. The team’s next action will be Friday and Saturday (Dec. 27-28), when Liberty Bell hosts a holiday tournament that includes Bridgeport, Entiat and Pateros. Games start at 1:30 p.m. on Friday and at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Methow Valley School District website.
