Darrell Lee McCarty, of Omak, died peacefully at home on Dec 5, 2019, after an extended illness. He was 74 years old.
Darrell was born Nov. 11, 1945, in Wenatchee, to George and Doris “Dee” McCarty. He grew up in Twisp, where he attended school, graduating in June of 1964. Darrell enjoyed growing up in the Methow Valley and spent many hours hiking and hunting the mountains and trails.
A year following graduation, Darrell enlisted, served six years, and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army National Guard.
During his years at Twisp High School, he met his future bride, Launie Ellen Wagoner, and they were married on Aug. 12, 1967. Darrell worked as a meat cutter for more than 30 years in several Washington locations, retiring in 2010.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Darrell was especially active in many activities of his children and grandchildren. He loved to hunt and ski and was a dedicated supporter of his children and grandchildren in their sporting events.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Launie, of Omak; daughters Shawna (Terry Paul) and Holly (Kenny Stanley), both of Omak; son Matt (Calial) of Bellingham; grandchildren Brett McCarty, Justin and Jacob Stanley, Makendra, Hudson, Paxton and Everlee McCarty. He is also survived by two sisters, Maureen (Ted) DelBianco and Sharon (Bill) Kiffe, a niece, five nephews, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In accordance with Darrell’s wishes, there will be a graveside service at Beaver Creek Cemetery in Twisp in the spring of 2020, followed by a celebration of life. Further information will be announced at a later date.
