Liberty Bell High School’s Knowledge Bowl team has started its 2019-20 with some new faces, coach Leverett Hubbard reported.
“The graduation of four seniors last year have left us with only three returning students,” Hubbard said. “Lindsay Worrell, a junior, will be leading our Team 1, anchored by sophomores Per Dillingham and Alex Eslava. We have a number of new students joining the team this year: sophomore Sophia Newton, and freshmen Angel Arellano, Connor Herlihy, Madison Strauss and Rocco Wildman.”
At the team’s first match on Dec. 2, at an Okanogan meet that also included Omak, Tonasket, Manson, Pateros, and Brewster. Team 1 (Worrell, Dillingham, Arellano and Herlihy) took first place overall with 47 points, edging Tonasket with 45 points. Liberty Bell 2 (Eslava, Strauss and Wildman) took 10th place out of 16 teams.
On Dec. 11, Liberty Bell traveled to Manson and faced Chelan for the first time this season plus Omak, Okanogan, Brewster and Tonasket. The seven schools fielded 15 teams.
“We only brought one team as a number of students had scheduling conflicts,” Hubbard said. Worrell and Eslava anchored the team with Arellano, Newton, and Strauss rotating in and out for the other two spots on the four-person team, Hubbard said. The team finished in 7th place out of 15 competitors.
Liberty Bell will host a home meet on Jan. 15 at 4 p.m.
