Think you might want to buy a special license plate honoring the state’s apple industry? State Sen. Brad Hawkins is teaming up with the Washington Apple Commission and the Washington Apple Education Foundation to make that possible. Hawkins, whose 12th District includes the Methow Valley, will introduce a bill in the Legislature’s 2020 session to create such a plate. The bill has 20 bipartisan co-sponsors, according to a Hawkins press release.
The Department of Licensing requires a collection of signatures showing at least 3,500 apple license plates are intended to be purchased. The Washington Apple Commission is currently collecting signatures. For more information, visit www.ipetitions.com/petition/washington-apples-license-plate. Cost of the plates will vary depending on the design and licensing fees required for a particular vehicle. Most of the state’s range from approximately $60 to $75.
