Fans of country music will be greeted with evocative, moving vocals when Farewell Angelina comes to the Winthrop Barn for a concert on Nov. 16.
Farewell Angelina’s four powerhouse female vocalists are all dynamic songwriters and accomplished multi-instrumentalists, known for heart-stopping harmonies backed by violins and guitars. The quartet delivers a new take on country music, combining clear vocals with incredible instrumentals and a generous dose of mischief.
Nicole Witt, Andrea Young, Lisa Torres and Ashley Gearing were pursuing solo careers in Nashville when they started singing together and were inspired by the blend of their voices. Since then, they’ve performed around the world, at the Kentucky Derby and the Academy of Country Music All-Star Jam, and sung the national anthem for Thursday Night Football. Farewell Angelina (named for a Bob Dylan song) took the coveted Hot Seat title — the choice of fans — in the Taste of Country Risers Program in 2017.
Rolling Stone magazine, calling the group “New Artists You Need to Know,” cited Farewell Angelina’s “wickedly smart songwriting delivered with a healthy dash of sass… deft playing… one sonic knockout punch.”
The country tracker Roughstock called the quartet a “superstar act… with killer songs” and put them on their list of “Ones to Watch.”
Farewell Angelina recently released the single “Women & Wine,” which has been getting rave reviews — one reviewer said, “the shimmering, echoey production is lovely.” Their music video for the single “Ghosts” was No. 1 on Country Music Television for five weeks.
