A 38-year-old Carlton man died after a head-on collision Sunday (Oct. 27) on Highway 153, 2 miles south of Carlton.
Clayton Thornton was driving north in a 2002 Ford Explorer at 3 p.m. when he crossed the center line and struck a 2005 GMC pickup pulling an 18-foot trailer loaded with firewood. Thornton was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two people in the southbound pickup—a 51-year-old Carlton woman, Rebecca Michelle Knight, and a 29-year-old Twisp man, Joshua William Geithman — were both uninjured.
The collision blocked both lanes. A Department of Transportation pilot car led traffic through the crash scene for three hours. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
