Liberty Bell’s Adee Smith, No. 24, maneuvered against defenders in the Lady Lions’ 1-0 win over Brewster on the home pitch last Saturday.

Two 1-nil victories on the home pitch last week put the Liberty Bell High School girls’ soccer team in firm command of second place in Central Washington 2B League play.

On Oct. 10, the Lady Lions and visiting Bridgeport Fillies played scoreless soccer for about 70 minutes in a tense defensive battle. Tommie Ochoa, working off a corner kick by Maya Sheely, scored the game’s lone goal with about 10 minutes remaining to give Liberty Bell the win. Liberty Bell goalkeepers McKenna Kurtz and Chloe Sprauer combined for the shutout.

Bridgeport has yet to find the net against the Lady Lions this year. Earlier in the season, Liberty Bell won 3-0 on the Fillies’ home field.

On Oct. 12, the Lady Lions welcomed traditional rival Brewster, and battled to another 1-0 win. Liberty Bell’s solo goal came on a free kick by Ali Palm.

The two victories left Liberty Bell with a 6-1 record in league play (7-3 overall), just behind league-leading Tonasket at 7-0. Earlier, the Lady Lions dropped a 5-4 decision to the Tigers.

Liberty Bell traveled to Manson (1-6, 2-7) on Tuesday (Oct. 15) and will be on the road again Thursday (Oct. 17) for a rematch at Brewster (4-3, 4-5-1).

Next Tuesday (Oct. 22), the Lady Lions will be at Tonasket, then return home to host Oroville on Oct. 24.
