Eleanor Akker passed away on Sept. 3, 2019. She was 77 years old.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend to everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her mother Hilda, her brother Mark and his wife Liz; her five children, Chris, Bruce, Andrew, Frederick and Gayle; and her eight grandchildren who brought her so much joy, Zac, Kaileah, Dalen, Shelan, Cameron, Amanda, Symphenie and Brandon; and her daughters-in-law Mo and Jeannette and son-in-law Cisse; brother-in-law Lee, as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was passionate about her faith, swimming, playing games, crafts and spending time with family and friends. She loved her community and was a Vacation Bible School and substitute teacher in the Methow Valley. She also was very dedicated to helping Wycliffe Bible Translators in Arizona.
Eleanor and her husband, Dale, moved with their young family from Minnesota to the Methow Valley in the early 1970s. Soon after, Dale became the pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Twisp. The family also founded and built the Friendship Community Church in Winthrop.
Eleanor resided in the Winthrop family home they built in 1993 till present, and winters in Arizona.
Eleanor will be laid to rest next to her true love and husband Dale Akker in Winthrop. There will be a short internment service on Friday (Sept. 13), at 3 p.m. at the Winthrop cemetery.
We will miss her dearly and remember her fondly. Her infectious laugh will always be cherished and remembered.
A celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held on Saturday (Sept. 14), 2019, with a church service at 3 p.m. followed by a celebration and potluck 4-6 p.m. at Methow Valley Community Covenant Church, 710 Hwy 20.
An additional celebration of life service will be held in October in Oro Valley, Arizona, where Eleanor spent the winters. Dates to follow soon.
