Members of the Killer Whales teamed up with other Okanogan County swimmers at the AAU regional meet in Toppenish.

The Okanogan Bullfrogs gave the Methow Valley Killer Whales swim team a tough battle at the Omak Invitational on July 20, with the Methow Valley team edging Okanogan, 577-560, in the four-way meet.

The Omak Manta Rays finished third with 393 points, while the Brewster Bearacudas were fourth with 193 points.

The Killer Whales found points wherever they could in the crowded pool, taking 24 first-place finishes, 19 seconds and 24 thirds. Leading the way for Methow Valley were Nyah Frantz (girls 9-10) with four victories, Shad Frantz (boys 13-14) also winning four times, and Zahra Borowski (girls 6 and under) taking first place three times. Leki Albright (girls 11-12) won twice, as did Bodie Paul (boys 15-18).

A few days earlier, the Killer Whales had a much easier time of it against the Bullfrogs in a dual meet at Wagner Memorial Pool on July 16. Methow Valley more than doubled Okanogan’s score, 533-240.

At that meet, the home team took 62 first-places finishes, 45 second places and 39 third places in 88 events. In individual events, 38 different Killer Whales had first-place finishes. Ally Hovee (girls 8 and under) had three of those.

Back on July 13, the Killer Whales sent 31 swimmers as part of the Okanogan County contingent at the AAU regional meet in Toppenish. The Okanogan team took first place in the Silver Division, and second place overall.

The Killer Whales were at Omak on Tuesday (July 23) for a dual meeting. On Saturday (July 27), the Methow Valley team will host the county championship meet at Wagner Memorial Pool.
