The Methow Valley Killer Whales swim team racked up nearly 60 wins in their first home meet of the season, on July 9 against the Brewster Bearacudas.

The Methow Valley Killer Whales swim team kept its winning streak alive by out-stroking the visiting Brewster Bearacudas in the local team’s first home-pool meet on July 9.

It was the fourth consecutive combined-scores victory this summer for the Killer Whales, who are the defending county league champions. On July 6, the Methow Valley team took first place in a four-way meet the Okanogan Relay Invitational, which also included Brewster, the Omak Manta Rays and the Okanogan Bullfrogs.

It was a cool, overcast day at Wagner Memorial Pool on July 9 as the Killer Whales’ combined team score of 487 points more than doubled Brewster’s 230. The Whales won 59 of the 88 events, and also claimed 40 second-place finishes and 33 third-place finishes. Demonstrating their depth, the Methow Valley team had 31 different swimmers with first-place finishes in individual events. A dozen swimmers won two events.

At the Okanogan Invitational, the Killer Whales’ combined boys’ and girls’ teams easily outdistanced second-place Okanogan with a combined score of 874 points to the Bullfrogs’448. Omak was third with 375.5 points and Brewster fourth with 309.5 points. Both the Killer Whales’ boys’ and girls’ contingents also took first place.

The Killer Whales won 34 of the 73 events, were second 19 times and third 20 times. In individual events, Nyah Frantz (girls 9-10), Gavin Blank (boys 9-10) and Tyler Darwood (boys 15-18) each won three races.

The Killer Whales hosted Okanogan on Tuesday (July 16). They will be at the Omak Invitational on Saturday (July 20) and then travel to Omak for a dual meet on Tuesday (July 23).
