County releases comp plan draft and environmental review

July 17, 2019 by Methow Valley News

Okanogan County has issued a draft environmental impact statement (EIS) on the proposed revisions to its 2014 comprehensive plan.

The comp plan informs other county land-use regulations. It serves as the basis for the zoning code, which applies the comp plan principles to specific areas and parcels throughout the county.

The proposed revisions to the comp plan are based on a mid-range estimate of population increase in the county.

The plan includes three policy alternatives to deal with the projected population increase. The draft EIS considers a fourth alternative that was suggested when the county solicited input for issues to evaluate during the environmental review.

The Okanogan County planning commission is holding a public hearing on the plan and draft EIS, where people can provide up to five minutes of verbal testimony. The public hearing is Monday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. in the commissioners’ auditorium in Okanogan. Written comments can be submitted at the hearing or sent before or after.

The public can comment on the draft EIS and revised comp plan until Sept. 3, 2019. Comments should be sent to cingle@co.okanogan.wa.us.

The plan and EIS are available online at www.okanogancounty.org/planning. For more information, contact Planning Director Perry Huston at (509) 422-7218 or phuston@co.okanogan.wa.us.
