Kids learned about bike riding skills and safety at the Bike Rodeo on the TwispWorks campus last weekend. A second Bike Rodeo will be at Pearrygin Lake State Park on June 8.
May is National Bicycle Month, and to increase awareness of our two-wheeled travelers, the Bike Rodeo was held at the TwispWorks Campus on Saturday (May 18).
The Bike Rodeo is an opportunity to teach riders the rules of the road, promote bicycle safety and celebrate bicycles as mode of transportation. Eager riders are adorned with streamers and set out on a “rodeo” course to hone skills like maneuvering corners, stopping quickly and safely, and traffic signals.
Local sponsors and volunteers include Aero Methow Rescue Service, Methow Cycle & Sport, Winthrop Kiwanis, Okanogan County Fire District 6 and Pearrygin Lake State Park. Since its inception, the Bike Rodeo has been a favorite family event, especially the free ice cream from Hank’s Harvest Foods that participants receive as an award for participation.
There will another Bike Rodeo at Pearrygin Lake on June 8.
