Tennis teams finish regular season at home this week

The Liberty Bell High School boys’ tennis team claimed two victories, while the girls’ team split their matches, in action last week.

At Lake Roosevelt on April 23, the girls lost 3 – 2 but the boys were victorious by the same score. On the home courts against Oroville on April 25, the girls won 4 – 1 and boys took another 3 – 2 victory. Against Oroville, coach Dave Schulz moved some of his regular singles players into doubles, and vice versa.

Lake Roosevelt

Girls’ singles: Ruthann Matteson won 6 – 3, 6 – 2; Shelby Vintin lost  2 – 6, 1 – 6; Chloe Temple won 6 – 3, 6 – 1. Doubles: Larkin Lucy and Lydia Whitlock lost 3 – 6, 3 – 6; Amber Surface and Kristy Vieth lost 7 – 6, 3 – 6, 2-7..

Boys’ singles: Tyler White battled for more than three hours before losing, 6 – 3, 4 – 6, 6 – 7;  Konnor Doran lost 0 – 8; Ian Dornfeld lost 2 – 8. Doubles: Zane Grubb and Isaac Blodgett won on a technical forfeit; Cameron Taylor and Ezekiel Kirk won 6 – 4, 7 – 5.

Oroville

Girls’ singles: Larkin Lucy won 6 – 1, 6 – 3; Lydia Whitlock lost 6 – 4, 3 – 6, 5 – 7; Chloe Temple won 7 – 5, 7 – 6. Doubles: Ruthann Matteson and Shelby Vintin won 6 – 1, 6 – 3; Kristy Vieth and Amber Surface won by forfeit.

Boys’ singles: Nicholas Fitzmaurice lost 3 – 6, 1 – 6; Zane Grubb lost 3 – 6, 4 – 6; Konnor Doran won 6 – 4, 6 – 0. Doubles: Isaac Blodgett and Tyler White won 6 – 1, 6 – 0; Cameron Taylor and Ezekiel Kirk won 6 – 4, 6 – 4.

Last week’s action left the girls with a 6 – 2 record in league play, 6 – 4 overall, while the boys were 5 – 3 in league play and 5 – 5 overall. Liberty Bell played at Tonasket on Tuesday (April 30) and finishes the regular season hosting Pateros for Senior Night on Thursday (May 2), starting at 4 p.m.

Seeding will take place Friday (May 3) for the 1B/2B tournament in Omak on May 6 and May 8. The 1A/2B/1B tournament will be in Omak on May 15 and May 18.
