Members of Okanogan County Search and Rescue (OCSAR) recently took over the tower at the North Cascades Smokejumper Base to practice techniques for rescuing people from rock-climbing accidents or other steep areas. The all-volunteer crew also has members who specialize in water rescue and searches with dogs or horses. They’re also adding drones for searching inaccessible areas. OCSAR needs people with adequate fitness and the ability to commit to the team. For more information or to volunteer, call OCSAR administrator Rick Balam at (509) 341-4478. A permit training for new volunteers is scheduled for May 4 and 5.
