Liberty Bell High School sophomore Stephanie Strong recently took first place in the 2019 Angela Schuster Svendsen Young Musician Competition sponsored by the Wenatchee Valley Orchestra.
The competition was on March 23. The Young Musician award includes a $1,000 cash prize and the opportunity to play with the orchestra in concert.
Strong has been playing cello since she was in third grade. She studied with Pam Hunt at Cascadia Pipestone School of Music and recently became a student of John Michel at Central Washington University.
Strong has played in the Pipestone Orchestra for five years. She is also a member of the Papillon String Quartet and plays in the school jazz band.
Strong was recently named winner of the 2019 Cherrington Memorial Merit Scholarship by Cascadia Music.
This is the second consecutive year a Methow Valley student has won the competition, which is open to students in north central Washington. Liberty Bell sophomore Keeley Brooks, a violinist, was the 2018 winner of the Young Musician Competition.
