
Adee Smith slid home to score in the Lady Lions’ first game against Omak. Liberty Bell swept the home field double-header against the visiting Pioneers.
The Liberty Bell High School softball team played two double-headers at home last week, with notably different results.
On April 18, the Lady Lions swept visiting Omak, 14-2 and 14-10, in a non-league matchup. On Saturday (April 20), Liberty Bell hosted Waterville-Mansfield and dropped both games, 17-9 and 13-5.
Against Omak, Tommie Ochoa pitched the first five-inning game for Liberty Bell, and on offense contributed a single and two runs. Peyton Lawrence smacked two doubles and scored three runs, Madi Surface had a single and two runs, Hailey Damman added a single and two runs, Bella Chrastina hit a single and scored once, and Kora Gilbert also had a single and a run.
In the second game, Liberty Bell again put up 14 runs, but Omak make it a little closer. Lawrence pitched 3 1/3 innings and Ochoa finished up on the mound. Ochoa scored two runs and had a stolen base, and Hannah Bakke added three runs.
Liberty Bell actually took a 9-8 lead into the top of the seventh inning in the first game against Waterville-Mansfield, but the visiting Shockers pushed nine runs across and the Lady Lions weren’t able to answer. Lawrence pitched for Liberty Bell and was also three-for-four at the plate and scored three times. Surface had two singles and scored two times. Bakke had two hits including a rare home run. Damman also had two singles.
Ochoa was back on the mound for the second game, and offensively she had two hits, two runs and three stolen bases. Surface added three singles and two runs, and Chrastina also had two singles.
Earlier in the week (April 16), Liberty Bell dropped a 15-1 home field decision to league-leading Brewster.
Last week’s games left the Lady Lions with a 0-7 record in league play, and 3-8 overall. They were scheduled to host Soap Lake on Tuesday (April 23), then travel to Manson on Thursday (April 25) for a double-header. Liberty Bell will be back on the road Saturday (April 27) for a double-header at Oroville.
