Gordy Giesen, 92, passed away at his home in Twisp on Jan. 5, 2019.
Gordy was born March 27, 1926, to Harry Giesen and Anna (Zannon) Giesen in Norway, Michigan. He joined the army at a young age and when honorably discharged he worked at a dairy farm in Stevenson, Michigan.
After leaving the dairy farm, he started working his way cross-country, working different jobs along the way. He ended his journey in Brewster, Washington, where he met and married Imogene (Hammons) Giesen, making their home in Brewster before moving to East Wenatchee, where he began working for Douglas County PUD.
They had four children: Blaine (Buck) Giesen (Twisp); Dennis Giesen (Omak); Darleen Giesen; and Duane Giesen (Twisp).
Gordy enjoyed many things in his life but being outdoors had to be his favorite.
Loading up his family, packing up the horses and mule to head for the mountains for a weekend of horseback riding, fishing and exploring was a normal weekend for the Giesen family in the late spring through mid-fall.
Later, moving to Palisades put an end to those wonderful weekends for a while. There was always something to do on the farm but of course, true to nature, he was still enjoying the outdoors.
After moving back to East Wenatchee, he began packing into the mountains once again. When he retired from the PUD he moved to Twisp, where he enjoyed the rest of his life, still enjoying his love of the outdoors, packing into the hills, working his little farm and helping his family, friends and neighbors.
Gordy worked hard but he played hard too. He always greeted you with a warm smile and his quick wit was always entertaining.
He is survived by three of his children: Buck Giesen, Dennis Giesen (Darlene) and Darleen Giesen; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his two sisters Elaine and Penny; and brothers Leeroy and Don.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene, son Duane and sister Harriett.
