Methow Valley biathletes have been active in the United States and abroad this spring.
Liberty Bell High School sophomore Eva Weymuller and Liberty Bell freshman Alex Tareski were named to the U.S. team for the Liatoppen skiskytterfestival 2019 in Ål, Norway, last weekend.
The competition is the Norwegian Biathlon Championships for 11-16 year olds. There are more than 1,100 racers competing this. The Norwegians give U.S. Biathlon 10 spaces to fill.
Tareski, competing in the 15-year-old boys category, finished 66th on Saturday and 60th on Sunday, and was part of the USA Team 1 that finished 37th in relay competition on Friday.
Weymuller finished 29th in the 16-year-old girls’ division on Saturday and 24th on Sunday. Her USA Team 1 did not register a time for the Friday relays.
Weymuller and 2011 Liberty Bell High School graduate Kelsey Dickinson, both from Winthrop and Methow Valley Biathlon, competed recently in the U.S. Biathlon Nationals in Jericho, Vermont, over three days of racing.
Weymuller, racing in the women’s youth category, came home with a fifth-place finish in the sprint race, first place in the modified pursuit, and 10th place in the mass start. Dickinson, competing in the women’s division, was third in both the sprint and pursuit and fourth in the super sprint.
