Maggie Marie Hampton, who resided at Jamie’s Place in Winthrop, passed away March 28, 2019, at the age of 90.
Maggie was born in Alma, Arkansas, in 1928 to Dovie Mae Oliver Hampton and Alonzo E. Hampton. Maggie had a wonderful childhood growing up in the small country town of Paris, Arkansas, with a wonderful dad who would supervise the kids swimming down at the creek and light up the family’s life with music and stories.
Maggie later lived in California, Utah, Seattle and Winthrop. She had three children who she described as her pride and joy. Maggie had eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who all loved her dearly.
Maggie’s claim to fame was the day she made a special dinner for the singer Johnny Cash. Mr. Cash was performing in Salt Lake City and Maggie’s husband, Bob, a local radio personality and announcer at the event, brought Johnny home to give him respite and a good home-cooked meal! Maggie said Johnny was very courteous and grateful for the delicious food.
A memorial service will be held in Paris, Arkansas.
