The usual big crowd filled the Winthrop Barn for the annual Kiwanis Bite of the Methow.
The Winthrop Kiwanis celebrated its 25th annual Bite of the Methow with a full Winthrop Barn, tables loaded with great food and an impressively generous showing from the community.
Kiwanis reported that the organization grossed more than $50,000 from the live and silent auctions of items donated by companies, organizations and individuals in the community.
Among the most noteworthy items was a coffee table built the Liberty Bell High School shop class which sold for more than $3,000. The auction proceeds are used for a wide variety of community projects as well as scholarships.
Volunteers from Okanogan County Fire District 6 helped out with the bar, and members of the Liberty Bell Key Club assisted with clearing tables, washing dishes and parking cars.
The Fund-A-Dream auction, which each year raises money for a special project, generated a record-breaking $10,500, Kiwanis reported. The money will be used to buy tools for the Advanced Construction Trades Class at Liberty Bell. The class had earlier acquired a trailer to transport tools to a job site.
As for the food vendors: The Freestone Inn won the “Bite of the Night” award for the second consecutive year; “Best Entrée” went to Methow Valley Thriftway; “Best Dessert” was captured by Old Schoolhouse Brewery; and the “Best Side Dish” award (for salad) went to TOPS.
