The Methow Valley Elementary School’s Math is Cool team, the Mad Adders, took first place at their regional meet on Friday (March 1) and qualified for the state championships at Moses Lake on May 18.

Eric Blank, who with Jen Ramsay coaches the team of fifth-graders, said in an email that the victory was a team effort. More than 90 teams and 360 participants from 28 schools competed in three divisions at the regional championships in East Wenatchee. The division the Mad Adders competed in had 40 teams with 160 participants.

Bodie Thomson had the highest individual score for the Mad Adders team and the fourth-highest score in the division. Alex Ramsay-George had the sixth-highest individual score in the division.

“You can be proud of how our team represented our school,” Blank said.
