Liberty Bell High School girls’ varsity basketball coach Stephanie Mitchell has been named Coach of the Year for the Central Washington 2B League in her first season of coaching the Lady Lions.
Under Mitchell, Liberty Bell advanced to last week’s 2B regionals in Wenatchee, where the Lady Lions lost to South Bend to end their season with an 18-6 record.
Liberty Bell freshman Jadyn Mitchell, the coach’s daughter, was named to the All-League first team. She averaged 15.2 points per game including last weekend’s regional contest against South Bend. Mitchell averaged a double-double for the season by pulling down 271 rebounds, 11.3 per game. She also had 32 steals, 44 assists and 41 blocks for the season.
Sophomore Sammy Curtis was named to the All-League second team. Curtis averaged 13 points per game through last weekend. She also collected 150 rebounds, had 21 assists and 75 steals.
Junior Tommie Ochoa earned honorable mention recognition. She was the Lady Lions’ third-leading scorer at 5.5 points a game. For the season, she had 89 rebounds, 75 assists and 91 steals. Ochoa was also named honorable mention last year.
