The 10th annual “Dazzling Desserts” bake sale fundraiser for the Torre Fuerte Girls’ Home in Peru will be on Saturday (Feb. 9) at 301 S. Highway 20, Twisp (next to Les Schwab, look for the balloons).
The event, sponsored by Methow Valley churches, will be from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and will feature a variety of homemade desserts. Cake and coffee will also be served.
The bake sale has generated about $12,000 to support the girls’ home. The home’s administrators, Scott and Leslie Hargrove and their children, moved from Chelan to Torre Fuerte, which has strengthened local connections. Teams from the Methow Valley have helped with construction and repair needs, electrical, building, plumbing, painting and also have invested time in working with the girls.
In his 2019 update, Scott Hargrove said that Casa Hogar Torre Fuente is celebrating its 15th year of operation in Arequipa, Peru. “The ministry exists to provide a place of refuge for girls who have suffered abandonment, abuse, neglect or extreme and devastating poverty,” he said.
Hargrove said the home usually has about 30 girls in residence, and more than 200 girls have passed through the ministry in its 15 years.
