Scrooge, played by Sage McFetridge, meets the Ghost of Christmas Past, played by Magnolia Brown, in this Seussified version of the Dickens classic, “A Christmas Carol.”

“A Seussified Christmas Carol,” a mash-up of Charles Dickens’ beloved Christmas story, with Dr. Seuss-style characters thrown in, opens this week at The Merc Playhouse in Twisp.

The first performance is Friday (Dec. 7) and the play continues through Dec. 16, with shows Thursdays – Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes before show time.

Tickets are $18 for online adult reserved seats and $16 online adult general admission. All adult tickets are $18 at the door. Youth reserved seats are $7 and youth general admission is $5. Thursday, Dec. 13, is “Pay What You Can” night.

Online tickets are available on The Merc Playhouse website, www.mercplayhouse.org, by clicking on the “Happening Now” link.

The play, directed by Sue Gottula, reinvents the classic story of Scrooge and the visitation by ghosts of Christmas past, present and future, all done in rhymed couplets.

The play, written by Peter Bloedel, features 22 local actors playing 38 parts.

A cast of characters, from quite young to more old, take the stage to get the story told. She dances and he sings — and all are visited by 1 and 2 Things. The show runs this weekend and next and rhyming that has us quite vexed.
